From January 1st, 2025, the NHBC (the UK’s leading provider of warranty and insurance for new homes) is introducing new waterproofing requirements for tiling in wet areas. These changes will impact all new houses where foundations are laid from this date onwards.
What Does This Mean for Tiling?
To comply with NHBC warranty and insurance requirements, tiling in certain wet areas must be tanked with an EAD-certified system. This applies to:
- Showers over baths or showers with trays (flow rate When the substrate manufacturer recommends tanking or has not passed NHBC Table 2 assessment.
- Any showers over baths or showers with trays (flow rate >12 litres/min).
- Any wet rooms (fully tiled walls and floors, including the shower area).
