Tile backer boards are being used more and more in tiling projects due to their versatility and range of benefits. They can be used to waterproof a wet room, as insulation boards with electric underfloor heating, as dry lining and home insulation, and of course the obvious flat surface for tiling. In this blog we take a closer look at the advantages of using a Tile Backer Board.
Waterproof
Tile Backer Boards are perfect for wet rooms as they create a waterproof barrier behind the tiles. The cement boards are made from rigid extruded polystyrene with a bonded cementitious coating to both sides so you don’t ever have to worry about rotting, deformation or weakening.
Perfect For Tiling
A Tile Backer Board can hold substantially more weight than other traditional wall surfaces. Each board can hold around 60kg, over double the weight plaster can hold, which is great for large or heavy tiles. The boards are also designed with adhesion in mind, so the bond created with adhesive and grout is much stronger than other materials, for example plywood. Using a Tile Backer Board also gives a smooth and flat surface to tile on to, and you can tile or plaster as soon as the boards are installed.
Insulating
A Tile Backer Board is a great insulation solution for dry lining buildings, insulation wet rooms or improving the efficiency of underfloor heating.
Increases Tile Choice
The Tile Backer Board creates a smooth foundation to be tiled upon as well as being extremely compatible with a variety of tiles such as marble, limestone, granite and much more. Its versatility makes it suitable for floors, walls and can also fit into awkward spots and corners with curved backer boards.
